Pearce Hails Supreme Court DC Handgun Decision

In a landmark decision, the United States Supreme Court ruled five to four to overturn the unconstitutional DC handgun ban affirming the position that the Second Amendment applies to individual rights. In writing the majority opinion Justice Scalia said it was unconstitutional for "the absolute prohibition of handguns held and used for self-defense in the home."

Rep. Pearce, who had earlier signed an amicus curiae brief to the Court asking to overturn the ban, released the following statement:

"I applaud the United States Supreme Court's decision to affirm the right of individuals to keep and bear arms. The ability to defend yourself and your family within your own home is a fundamental right all Americans must be able to exercise. With this ruling of the Court, we have set an important precedent of Second Amendment rights for future generations."
